About the Society

Squash tendril

The purpose of the Society is to promote, develop and guide the application of biodynamic agriculture methods, in accordance with the principles set forth in the agriculture course given by Rudolf Steiner in 1924, in Koberwitz, Germany.

The Society for Bio-Dynamic Farming and Gardening in Ontario was incorporated in 1982 and is a registered charity. We currently have 120 plus members, from Saskatchewan to Nova Scotia.

We are one of three regional biodynamic societies in Canada – the other two based in Quebec and British Columbia. In addition, we are affiliated with the Biodynamic Association of America and Demeter Canada, an agricultural certifying body.

Membership

Membership in the Society is open to anyone who wishes to learn, practice or support the concepts of biodynamic agriculture.

Membership is $25 per year, or $70 for three years.

Members receive our newsletter, Stir, and are entitled to a 20% discount on biodynamic agriculture books and calendars purchased from the Society.

By becoming a member, you are supporting biodynamic education, and benefit from contact with like-minded farmers, gardeners and supporters.

Newsletter

The Ontario newsletter, Stir, is published quarterly-ish (in concert with work in the ‘field’) and membership in the Society includes a subscription. The newsletter is a sampling of the stew of bd conversation carefully selected from sources local and abroad..The slow cooker is always on… inviting you to add your submissions to the mix ; ingredients are being sampled on a regular basis, but only once per season it is stirred to print (please refer to submission deadlines on the web-site or past newsletter). You may consider your contributions, when they make it to the table, like a dish you bring to a pot-luck,… posted to all partakers. We encourage you to give us feedback on what Stirs you, what didn’t, and what might ; too spicy or not enough? ( it is this editor’s intention that the newsletter arrives on your table well-seasoned )

Submissions might include:

  • One-time submissions
  • ‘Column’ submissions or suggestions
